Strategic Management
A problem that exists in many companies is lack of standardization, lack of documenting of procedure and lack of enforcement when it comes to people deviating from the normal procedure in an unnecessary or even reckless fashion. Too often, people do things the way they wish or the way "they've always known" rather than follow the procedure that is supposedly on record and supposed to be followed at all times. Often concurrent to that are situations where an established knowledge base that is in print and backed up is just not there. This can be dangerous to business and strategic continuity if a subject matter expert with the firm dies, quits or is fired. While dedicating the money, time and manpower to change the status quo can be costly, to not have things documented, in order and easy to point to when there are deviations is less than wise.
The Plan
Objectives
So as to maintain anonymity, the firm that shall be used in this strategic management implementation plan shall be called Acme Corporation. As alluded to in the introduction, there is a confluence of procedures not being documented and the supposed procedures of record not being followed. This is dangerous on two levels given that the way things are supposed to be done is not firmly in print. This makes it harder to assert to employees who do not comply that they are not following the rules since the rules in question are perhaps ambiguous and fluid. Concurrent to that is the idea that not having a knowledge base and archive of what has been done before so to see what works, what has not worked, what has been raised in prominence due to success and what has not due to setbacks is something that simply cannot be done in today's business space. With collaboration suites and programs like Skype for Business, SharePoint and so forth, it is just silly not to have the right frameworks in place. Through the use of these and other tools, a business can put to print (even if it's altogether digital) what procedure is right now and what perhaps could be done better or instead so that results and outcomes are better and quicker.
